ago, Microsoft had even disbanded their browser development branch and the future looked gloomy for web and web browsers. Then on 9th November,2004 twelve developers took the initiative of creating an alternative to Microsoft’s highly monopolistic IE6 [Internet Explorer 6.0] and launched Firefox 1.0. There have been five new versions launched after that and to mark its 5th birthday today Mozilla has announced the launch of its latest version Firefox 6.0 due to be available for download in early December.
The browser, with the help of Google is now a true giant in the browser market with over one million downloads within four days of its first launch. The number hasĀ swelled up to a whopping 330 million in five years according to Mozilla comprising almost a quarter of the internet users worldwide.
In order to mark its 5th birthday Firefox has launched a worldwide campaign called “Light the world with Firefox” -shining the Firefox logo from Tokyo to Rome and then to Paris and more. They have also come up with a video marking the open source web browser’s birthday.
