According to a recently published research, more than half of all babies born
today in the rich nations of the world can expect a longer life.Scientists propose to replace worn out body parts with much improve artificial limbs, bones and organs thus allowing us to be as fit in the second half century as the first one.
The news came via a medical journal Lancet, along with the announcement of a £50m bio-technology research project by University of Leeds,UK.The project proposes to gift the human race with 50 years of life after the age of 50.The project is believed to be funded by a group of research councils, charities and industry with the aim to bring top scientists and engineers from all over the UK and turn their knowledge into real life applications.

Scientists will be able to replace the painful, sore joints
Brief insight from the Project Heads
Professor John Fisher, director of Leeds’ Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, believes they can get the whole idea into its final shape and bring the finished product to the market till 2015.
“None of us is getting any younger,” said Professor Eileen Ingham, deputy director of Leeds’ Institute.
“These advanced therapies will be available to help people, but only if we can take these world-class ideas and turn them into tangible products.” said Ingham.
The institute is also working to develop artificial heart valves that the body will think are its own as well as new skin and cartilage using similar technology. The transplants will not be living tissues which means they can be stored in the hospitals in bags, ready for the surgeons to use.
While the whole idea behind this research seems promising,it sure has its limitations and drawbacks.Top of that list is the huge cost of such a treatment which majority of the people in the developing countries will not be able to afford but if you are lucky enough to be born in a rich, developed country with good health care facilities then you might be able to live longer than expected.
